Kinetics of polymer crystallization by temperature modulated DSC (TMDSC) — •Dmitry Sukhorukov and Christoph Schick — Universitaet Rostock FP Universitaet Platz 3, 18051 Rostock, Germany
Polymer crystallization yields two effects in calorimetry. The exothermic heat flow due to the formation of the crystals and a decrease of base-line heat capacity because of the lower heat capacity of the polymer crystals compared to the melt. The first effect allows for the investigation of crystallization processes with half times in the range 1 to 100 minutes. For the measurement of the heat capacity decrease no limitations to longer half times exist except the time needed for the measurement. We will compare the results from both methods for isothermal crystallization of homo and diblock copolymers and phase separated polymer blends. The measurement of heat capacity by temperature modulated DSC (TMDSC) allows for a significant extension of the measuring window towards longer half times.
