Longitudinal optical phonons in quantum dots. — •Vasilios Stavrou and Ortwin Hess — Theoretische Quantenelektronik, Institut fuer Technische Physik, DLR, Pfaffenwaldring 38-40, D-70569 Stuttgart

Longitudinal optical phonons (LO) in quantum dots (QDs), have been studied in the frame of a macroscopic continuum model, the hybrid model. The mechanical and electromagnetic boundary conditions have been used in the case of a single cubic QD in order to construct the phonon dispersion relation. The phonon dispersion shows that the hybrid modes in QDs strongly depend on the size of the QDs. Comparison with the hybridons in QWs is also illustrated. The use of the above mentioned boundary conditions enable comparison with Raman scattering experiments.
