The enhanced g-factor in a quantum wire -dependence on the confinement. — •Siawoosh Mohammadi1, T. Brandes2, S. Kettemann1, and B. Kramer11I.Institut Theoretische Physik, Hamburg University, Jungiusgstr. 9, 20344 Hamburg — 2Dept. of Physics, UMIST, P.O. Box 88, Manchester M60 1QD, UK

We investigate the enhancement of the g-factor in a quasi one dimensional interacting electron gas subject to a strong perpendicular magnetic field. The restriction to one dimension is achieved by adding a parabolic confinement of a two dimensional electron gas. It is well known that exchange effects are one reason for the enhancement of the g-factor. On the other hand the enhancement varies strongly with the population of the spin bands. In this contribution we show by minimizing the total energy that both the Hartree and the Fock energy are crucial for the occupation behaviour of the system. Furthermore, we study the evolution of the enhanced Zeeman splitting when narrowing the confinement. The results are in qualitative agreement with recent magnetocapacitance measurements by Pallecci et al. [1].
