Discontinuous metal-insulator multilayers Co80Fe20(t)/ Al2O3(3nm)10 were studied by SQUID magnetometry and magneto-optic Kerr effect. For small values of the nominal thickness, t ≤ 1.4 nm the CoFe forms isolated ferromagnetic particles in the Al2O3 matrix. For t > 1.4 nm percolation to ferromagnetic network sets in. We focused on magnetization reversal dynamics as found from sweep time dependent hysteresis curves for samples with 1.3 nm ≤ t ≤ 1.6 nm. The experimental results are compared with Monte Carlo simulations on realistic model systems.
