Cell motility plays a role in the healing of wounds and in neuronal development. Cells exert forces onto their focal adhesion contacts during displacement. This poster discusses a method to guide the location of focal adhesion contacts and to determine focal adhesion forces with high resolution. The method is based on Si (100) technology and colloidal probe techniques. The fabrication involves a combination of photolithographic techniques, plasma etching and wet etching processes. The device consists of regularly placed silicon pillars onto which the cells attach selectively. While cells are moving forward the pillars bend. Analysis of the pillar cap displacement will give the exerted point forces.
