Electroabsorption spectroscopy of MePTCDI thin layer — •Wenge Guo, Tom Hasche, Karin Schmidt, Jens Drechsel, Martin Pfeiffer, Michael Hoffmann, and Karl Leo — Institute for Applied Photo Physics,TU-Dresden,George-Baehr-Str.1 , 01069,Dresden,Germany

Quasi-1D organic crystals are attractive for optoelectric device applications, because the generation and transport of charged carriers are expected to be favored due to the strong inter-molecular interactions. The optical absorption spectra of these materials such as MePTCDI and PTCDA have only recently been described using a model based on free Frenkel and charge-transfer excitons. To get an independent proof of these exciton models, we performed electroabsorption measurements on thin MePTCDI layers. The experiments are performed at room-temperature in transmission geometry using normal incidence. We will show the first and the second harmonic electro-absorption spectra and discuss their shape. A detailed understanding of the EA spectra will be subject of further model calculations.
