INTERFACE PROPERTIES AND FRONTIER ORBITALS OF ORGANIC MATERIALS — •Maria Benedetta Casu, Paolo Imperia, and Sigurd Schrader — University Potsdam,Institut of Physics,LS-PKM

The properties of the interface between SiO2 and a low molecular compound were studied by means of ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). The investigated material, an amphiphilic derivative of 2,5-diphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole, is of interest in photonics being candidate to be used in devices. We investigated the interface properties depending on the number of monolayers of well oriented Langmuir-Blodgett films, monitoring the frontier orbital position, with particular regard to the highest occupied molecular orbital energy position. Furthermore, we mapped out the band at the interface by using angle resolved UPS. The results give the arrangement at the interface NADPO/SiO2 and evidence for the occurrence of band bending. The correlation between the UPS results and carrier-transport and light emitting properties of these material is also discussed.
