Recent angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) experiments allowed to identify the doubling of the band forming the Fermi surface in the two-layer BSCCO compounds. We study the influence of such splitting on the electronic structure under the different excitation conditions using unpolarized, linearly polarized and circularly polarized radiation of various energies. Bilayer splitting is explicitly resolved for the wide range of doping levels including the underdoped samples. We demonstrate that the famous peak-dip-hump line shape of the (pi,0) spectra taken in the superconducting state can be well explained in terms of the superposition of the bonding and antibonding components. We also report the momentum and energy distribution of the dichroic signal observed for both underdoped and overdoped samples. Difference in intensity of ARPES spectra taken with the light of positive and negative helicities turns out to be antisymmetric with respect to the reflections in both mirror planes and has an opposite sign for the bonding and antibonding components. A possible interpretation of the experimental results and their relation to the superconductivity in studied compounds is presented.
