Oscillation of Andreev levels due to the Rashba effect — •Christian Schroll1 and Ulrich Zülicke2 — 1Department für Physik, Universität Basel — 2Institut für Theoretische Festkörperphysik, Universität Karlsruhe
Structural inversion asymmetry in semiconductor heterostructures
induces a coupling of electronic and orbital degrees of freedom.
As a consequence, electron states in two-dimensional electron
systems (2DES) exhibit a spin splitting even at vanishing
external magnetic field. This phenomenon is known as the Rashba
effect.
Using the theoretical formalism of Blonder, Tinkham and Klapwijk
(BTK) , we describe the interplay of Andreev reflection and
Rashba spin-orbit coupling in a superconductor - 2DES -
superconductor hybrid structure. The presence of the Rashba
spin-orbit coupling in the 2DES results in oscillations of
Andreev levels as a function of external gate voltages. The
behaviour of the oscillations of the Andreev levels in presence
of an external in plane magnetic field is studied.
