CAVITATION AFTER SHOCK WAVE PROPAGATION INSIDE A CHEMICALLY ACTIVE ORGANIC BUBBLY LIQUID — •Konstantinos Mitropetros1, Pavel A. The cavitation phenomenon after the propagation of a shock wave inside an organic bubbly liquid is investigated. The system consisted of pure cyclohexane containing oxygen bubbles inside an autoclave. High speed optical and pressure measurements were applied. The photos presented were recorded by a digital framing camera at 100 000 fps. Diffuse light was used as external light source.

Shock induced bubble collapse and bubble ignition as well as indirect and direct light emission of bubbles is optically recorded. The cavitation phenomenon is investigated and characteristic parameters of it in this system, e.g. number and typical size of cavitation bubbles in the liquid, are measured. The influence of cavitation conditions to the size of previously collapsed bubbles is discussed. The influence of the geometry of the autoclave to the profile of the pressure in the liquid is presented.
