DETONATION WAVE IMPACT ON THE SURFACE OF A CHEMICALLY ACTIVE ORGANIC BUBBLY LIQUID — •Konstantinos Mitropetros1, Pavel A. Fomin1, Hansjörg Seeger1, Josef Bender1, Stefan Seifert1, Jörg Steinbach2, Bodo Plewinsky3, and Hartmut Hieronymus11Federal Institute for Material Research and Testing (BAM), Berlin, Germany — 2Technical University of Berlin, Germany — 3Free University of Berlin, Germany

The behavior of the surface of a chemically active bubbly liquid under a detonation wave impact is presented. The system investigated is pure cyclohexane containing oxygen bubbles inside a cylindrical autoclave. High speed optical and pressure measurements were applied. The photos presented were recorded by a digital framing camera at 100 000 fps and 500 000 fps. Different light sensitivities between the experiments were used to visualize different effects. Diffuse light generated by a flash lamp was used as external light source.

The shock induced light emission of the gas phase, the soot formation behind the detonation wave front, the detonation wave reflection on the liquid’s surface and the resulting microdroplets detachment as well as the bubble collapse and bubble ignition near the surface are discussed. Characteristic parameters of these phenomena are measured.
