SHOCK INDUCED BUBBLE EXPLOSION IN A MONODISPERSED ORGANIC LIQUID — •Konstantinos Mitropetros1, Pavel A. The shock induced explosion behavior of a monodispersed organic bubbly liquid is investigated. The system consisted of pure cyclohexane containing oxygen or nitrogen bubbles inside an autoclave. The oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol is an intermediate step for the production of nylon. High speed optical and pressure measurements were applied. The photos presented were recorded by a digital framing camera at up to 1 Mfps. Diffuse light was used as external light source.

The shock induced bubble dynamics, i.e. bubble size as a function of time, cumulative jet formation and penetration through the bubble as well as bubble breakage is optically recorded. The explosion of oxygen containing bubbles is observed. Characteristic parameters of the bubble explosion, e.g. ignition delay and duration of light emission are measured. Shock wave emission from bubble collapse and bubble explosion is visualized.
