A model lamp has been designed to study a high pressure DC discharge, especially near the electrodes regions. Many diagnostics have been already done for this model lamp in the past by the group of J. Mental from Ruhr University of Bochum To get more insight into this lamp, it is necessary to get the more precise information about electron gas parameters. Therefore we applied Thomson scattering spectroscopy. Since there are some difficulties to carry out Thomson scattering in the real high intensity discharge (HID)lamps, the model lamp is a very good candidate for Thomson scattering technique application to small diameter HID lamps. In this study, Thomson scattering experiment were carried out successfully for the model lamp with pure Ar of 1-2 bar driven by DC current in the order of a few ampere. The signal was detected using a triple grating spectrograph for stray light rejection. Electron density and electron temperature were measured for different axial position and different currents. Both coherent and incoherent Thomson scattering fitting functions had to be used for the data processing. From the results, we can see clear departures from LTE.
