Plasma potential measurement in a magnetised plasma — •Franko Greiner1, Dietmar Block1, Alexander Piel1, and Svetlana Ratynskaia21IEAP, Christian Albrechts Universit"at zu Kiel, 24098 Kiel, Germany — 2Max-Planck-Institut for Extraterrestrial Physics, 85748 Garching, GERMANY

The measurement of plasma potential is always a delicate task. If probes are used, one is interested in a one point measurement. This avoids the necessity to aquire the whole I(U)-characteristic of a probe. The emissive probe [1] is a well established technique to measure DC-plasma potential and plasma potential fluctuations. However, the emissive probe is a little touchy and can disturb the plasma. As an alternative, probe systems which prevent electrons from reaching the probe surface, can be used. In a magnetised plasma this can be done by taking advantage of the large difference in the gyro radii of electrons and ions. Probe techniques using this concept are the katsumata probe [2] and the plugged probe [3]. We present a comparison of plasma potential measurement with emissive, plugged and a simplified katsumata probe. Experiments were carried in the simple magnetised torus TEDDI at Kiel University.
