The construction of collisional-radiative models (CRM) is important for the modelling of processes in the boundary of fusion plasmas. Also CRMs are useful for calculation of different parameters essential for the processing of data obtained from the diagnostics.

An important part of the CRM is an atomic database, containing atomic constants for elementary processes which can play a significant role in the frame of the considered model. The calculation methods can be subdivided into two types: "sophisticatedNo-dq methods based on the solution of the close coupling (CC) system of equations and "simpleNo-dq methods based mostly on the perturbation theory (e.g. Born method).

Processes induced by collisions with heavy particles (protons, deuterons, etc.) can play a significant role for a number of cases. It is shown that the impact parameter (IP) representation is useful for the calculation of such processes. Both CC (code "ATCCNo-dq) and Coulomb-Born (code "ATIPMNo-dq) approaches in IP representation were used for calculation of proton impact excitation in He and He−like ions, in particular for the 31S−31P−31D system in He. The comparison of those results with each other and other data are discussed including different particular effects such as e.g. channel interaction (normalization), stepped transitions.
