X-ray spectroscopy was used to measure the distribution of highly-ionized Ar atoms in ohmic and NBI heated discharges at the fusion experiment TEXTOR. The relative abundancies of H-, He-, Li-, Be-like Ar ions were obtained for different plasmas in the tokamak.
The high resolution of the spectrometer and the component structure of He-like spectra provide the important information needed to investigate the distribution of ionization stages. Complete modeling of the spectra includes atomic collision processes involving in spectra formation. The integration along the line of sight and transport code simulation substantially increase the quality of the obtained results. The values for central plasma parameters provided by the fitting procedure occurred to be in a good agreement with measurements by other diagnostics, indicating the consistency of the model. The relative position of the spectrometer with respect to different beam sources was shown to play an important role in the interpretations of results. The values of measured ionic abundancies were compared with calculated ones for coronal equilibrium and with the results of modeling by transport codes.
