Different types of Ionisation-waves in a glow-discharge appear in certain parameter ranges of current and pressure. They can be distinguished by the empiric Novak-constant N = p λ to r-, p- and s-waves.

In this contribution a method was developed to automatically characterize the areas of stability of a glow-discharge in a longitudinal magnetic field. As a test the Novak-constant was measured systematically in the p-I-range 0.1 .. 30mA, 0.1 .. 15mbar for an unmagnitized plasma.
