Time Resolved Diagnostics and Electrical Simulation of Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) — •M. Shakhatre, A. Fateev, I. P. Vinogradov, and A. Lunk — Institut für Plasmaforschung, Universität Stuttgart, Pfaffenwaldring 31, 70569 Stuttgart

The DBD in air and argon at atmospheric pressure is characterised by filamentary micro discharges. The number of discharges per area and time as well as the time duration of micro discharges depend on the kind of gas used as well as on geometry and distance between electrodes. Investigation of this dependencies were performed in two DBD reactors. In one of them symmetrical electrodes are used with nearly Rogowski-profile (reactor I). The second electrode set up was asymmetric consisting of one cylindrical electrode and two rectangular rods (reactor II). The discharge-voltage and -current was measured time-resolved simultaneously with time-resolved measurements of light emission coming out from the micro discharge. The measurements in reactor I show that the duration time of micro discharge and the number of discharges per second depend on power and distance of electrodes as well as of the gas used. The dependencies found will be discussed in detail. The number of discharges per second are nearly the same in the positive and negative half cycle. In the asymmetric reactor II the number of micro discharges in both cycles differ in dependence on distance between the electrodes. The influence of the electrical network on voltage-current characteristics was measured and compared with PSPICE-simulations.
