Laser induced fluorescence measurements in a helicon plasma — •Albrecht Stark, Christian Franck, Olaf Grulke, and Thomas Klinger — Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma Physics, Greifswald Branch, EURATOM Association

Laser-induced-fluorescence (LIF) provides a diagnostic approach to determine the ion energy distribution function (IEDF). Particularly, if the IEDF is Maxwellian the ion temperature is obtained. In more advanced experimental setups perturbations of the IEDF due to dynamical processes in the plasma, e.g. waves or instabilities, can be measured by lock-in techniques. The LIF installed at the linearly magnetized VINETA plasma device is presented. It consists of a diode laser, tunable in the range of 30 pm with a center wavelength of 668 nm, with a cw output power of 60 mW. First measurements of the ion temperature in a helicon argon discharge are presented. Additionally, the conceptional design based on the current system for measurements of perturbations of the IEDF and of multi-dimensional ion velocity fields is discussed.
