Matilda II - An experiment to study magnetized complex plasmas — •Björn Brede, Thomas Trottenberg, Markus Hirt, Dietmar Block, and Alexander Piel — IEAP, Christian-Albrechts-Universität, 24098 Kiel

Within the field of complex plasmas, only little attention is paid to experiments in magnetized complex plasmas so far. Especially for those with moderate field strength, i.e. where the plasma is magnetized while the dust particles remain undisturbed, many questions are open. The new experiment Matilda II was build to perform versatile experiments in the area of magnetized complex plasmas with an emphasis on waves and instabilities, e.g. dust drift waves, dust cyclotron waves and many ordinary plasma waves which are affected by a reduction of free electron density. In this contribution the general design of the experiment, the plasma diagnostics (Langmuir probe and resonance cone), the optical diagnostics and the dust particles, which are used in the experiments, are described. For the generation of the plasma, different capacitive and inductive high frequency discharges are used. The discharge configurations and the achievable plasma parameters are presented. First measurements of density reduction due to the influence of the dust are shown in a companion poster (Electron and ion density reduction in a complex plasma, T. Trottenberg et al., this conference).
