Muon background rejection for the MAGIC telescope — •Keiichi Mase1,2, Razmik Mirzoyan1, Kenji Shinozaki1,2, and Masahiro Teshima31Max–Planck–Institut für Physik, Föhringer Ring 6, D–80805 München — 2on leave from Institute for Cosmic Ray Research — 3Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, University of Tokyo, 5–1–5 Kashiwa–no–Ha, Kashiwa City, Chiba 277–8582, Japan

In order to provide the optimal sensitivity of the MAGIC telescope it is important to reduce the background due to muon triggers. The muonss which have large angular deviation from the axes of showers may give triggers and appear as “single” muon events sometimes mimicking γs. Strategies to reduce this background are presented.
