Curvature elasticity of polymer decorated membranes — •Thorsten Auth and Gerhard Gompper — Institut für Festkörperforschung, Forschungszentrum Jülich, 52425 Jülich

Membrane models are used to describe a variety of systems, ranging from biological membranes to microemulsions. Experiments allow to measure the influence of polymers on these systems [1,2]. It has been found that already small amounts of polymers can have a dramatic effect on the phase behaviour. Theories are available for ideal polymer chains [3,4]. We have developed a method to simulate the effect of anchored polymers in mushroom regime on the membrane properties. The Monte Carlo technique is used to study self-avoidance effects as well as different polymer architectures. New results for the dependency of the polymer effect on star polymer functionality will be presented.
