A polyfluorene/polyaniline (PF/PANI) block copolymer useful for a photovoltaic application is composed of an electron donor (PF) and an electron acceptor (PANI) phase. The exciton diffusion length is about 10 nm. Therefore, generated excitons will recombine before reaching the interface. The objective is to induce an well-aligned microphase separation in the length scale of the exciton diffusion length, so that an effective charge separation can take place at the interfaces. For this purpose two techniques based on nanoimprint lithography (NIL) were used: (1) Metallic nanostructures induce a phase separation in the polymer layer (2) The PF/PANI is directly patterned by NIL. Investigations based on scanning tunnelling, scanning force and electron microscopy are presented. This work was supported by the VW foundation.
