Bulk amorphous NdFeCoAl alloys show interesting magnetic properties which depend strongly on the cooling conditions chosen for the preparation process. It is assumed that the magnetic properties are correlated to structural fluctuations on a nanometre scale. We use the model of dense-randomly packed spheres to simulate amorphous and liquid multicomponent alloys. The radii distribution of the spheres corresponds to the atomic radii and the chemical composition of the alloys. In a first step, homogeneous randomly packed models are generated. Then, suitable nanocrystalline precipitations are induced. The scattering intensities of the models are calculated and compared to experimental data. Finally, hypotheses for the structure of the alloys considered are derived.
