The attractive magnetic microstructure of the nanocrystalline Fe-based alloys is promising for industrial applications; however, their mechanical properties still represent a shortcoming for rising in-service onset. We focus our attention on the corrosion phenomena of disordered metallic alloys to which is dedicated surprisingly week interest at present.

Corrosion tests were carried out on different types of Fe-based alloys in amorphous and nanocrystalline state. The samples were exposed under outdoor atmosphere, in the industrial and rural environments.

Mössbauer spectroscopy techniques besides low incident-angle X-ray diffraction were employed. Concerning Mössbauer measurements, particularly its CEMS variant proved valuable in surface studies. On the other hand, the measurements in transmission mode provided information on the microstructural and magnetic rearrangement in the bulk of materials. Engagement of XRD showed to be helpful in corrosion products identification as well.

The experiments unveiled significant influence of the partial crystallization, alloy composition as well as the type of corrosive environment on the corrosion mechanism.

Contribution of the grants SGA 1/7631/20 and partially SGA 1/8305/01 and DAAD 17/2002 is acknowledged.
