Room-temperature MFM studies on a polycrystalline bulk-perovskite manganite — •Pintu Das, Yunhui Xu, M. R. Koblischka und U. Hartmann — Institute of Experimental Physics, University of Saarbruecken, 66041 Saarbruecken, Germany

We report on the result of an MFM experiment performed on a polished polycrystalline bulk La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 sample. The experiment was carried out at room temperature which is almost 70 K less than the Curie temperature of this material. We observed a maze-like domain pattern having a very strong magnetization component perpendicular to the surface. The domains extend over a few grains, undeterred by low-angle grain boundaries. This confirms the strong magnetic coupling between the grains. Measurements were also carried out at a varying field (up to 40 mT). The polycrystalline bulk sample is of importance to study the magnetization process in this kind of material in the absence of distortions due to the underlying substrate in thin film samples.
