Spectroscopy of the Electron-Electron Interaction in Solids — •Natasha Fominykh, Jürgen Henk, Jamal Berakdar, and Patrick Bruno — Max-Planck Institut für Mikrostrukturphysik, Weinberg 2, 06120 Halle

The spectrum of a photoexcited electron pair carries detailed information on the electron-electron interaction in metals. This is deduced from the results of a theoretical model for the treatment of the double photoelectron emission (DPE) from surfaces, presented in this contribution. The electron-electron interaction is taken into account using a model potential of the screened Coulomb type. Our goals in this work are threefold:
(i) We aim at calculating SPE and DPE spectra within the same approach to contrast the information obtained from both techniques and in order to assess the reliability of the single-particle part of the DPE theory.
(ii) We explore manifestations of the electron-electron interaction in the DPE spectra and expose the dependencies of these effects on the crystal orientation, the photoelectron energies, and the photoelectron escape depth.
(iii) We compare and analyze our results for electron-electron energy correlations which available experiments and point out differences and similarities with the atomic case.
