Two new experimental set-ups at the high-pressure x-ray diffraction beamline F3 at HASYLAB/DESY — •Ulrich Ponkratz1, Felix Porsch2, Andreas Schiwek1, Hubertus Giefers1, Wilfried B. We present two new set-ups at beamline F3 which are now available to users. The first set-up is designed for strain measurements of samples under non-hydrostatic stress in diamond anvil cells (DAC) and comprises two independent Germanium detectors to collect two diffraction patterns simultaneously. One detector collects diffraction patterns from lattice planes perpendicular to the load axis, the second detector receives diffracted X-rays from lattice planes containing the uniaxial stress axis. The capability of this new set-up is demonstrated with experiments on the Laves phase PrCo2 and the stress-induced phase transition of SnO under non-hydrostatic compression. The second set-up allows angle dispersive x-ray diffraction under pressure. The monochromator consists of two Mo-B4C multi-layer systems; diffraction patterns are recorded on image plates or with an MAR-CCD camera system. The capability of this set-up is shown with experiments on Gd metal at 67 GPa and the time-resolved observation of the disproportionation of SnO at high temperatures and moderate pressures in a diamond anvil cell.
