Stability and instability of thin polymer films as investigated in real and reciprocal space — •Peter Müller-Buschbaum — TU München Physik Department LS E13, James-Franck-Str.1, 85747 Garching

The stability of thin polymer films is of significant importance for numerous applications. During the destabilization an initially homogeneous film is transformed into a characteristically structured surface. Real and reciprocal space methods enable two complementary experimental ways to investigate the evolving structures. While in simple systems the scaling laws are valid from a macroscopic down to a microscopic scale, in more complex systems significant deviations are observable. Examples are layered substrates [1] or diblock copolymer films [2].
