Resonant anomalous scattering combines scattering and spectroscopy to a technique that probes the electronic structure selectively on sites with certain periodicities. Such a method is particularly suited for the investigation of ordering phenomena as they are observed in correlated systems. With modern bright synchrotron-radiation sources and high-resolution beamlines available, scattering can be performed by selectively exciting electrons in a particular state. Though the principle of the measurement is easy to understand, the data analysis is quite involved, because effects like the strong change of sample optical properties across the resonance have to be taken into account. We report about a project to create a sound footing for the data analysis by investigating simple model systems.
