Explanation of the numerical value of the fine-structure constant derived from a standing wave model of the macroscopically resting electron — •Eckart Schoenfeld — Kritzower Str. 4, 19412 Weberin
The work earlier done by the author 1, 2 concerning the explanation of the numerical value of the fine-structure constant α is compiled and reviewed. After describing the standing wave model of the macroscopically resting electron which is characterised by an energy flux taking place with velocity of light along a closed curve of uniform and constant curvature, the contributions of the matter field and the electromagnetic field of the electron to its rest mass are calculated in detail. Investigations of the inner energy transport lead to the relation 1/α = (mm/mo)π4 √/2 where mo is the rest mass of the electron and mm its quantum-mechanical fraction. Whereas the lowest-order of mo/mm yields 1/α = 137.0355, the inclusion of higher order effects like the polarisation of the vacuum results in 1/α = 137.036005. This value agrees with those derived from experiments within 5× 10−8. 1 E. Schoenfeld, Metrologia 27, 117 (1990) (2) E. Schoenfeld, Report PTB-Ra 40 (1996)
