Towards fault-tolerant quantum computation with the one-way quantum computer — •Robert Raussendorf, Benedict Neuburger, and Hans Juergen Briegel — Theoretische Physik, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Muenchen

The one-way quantum computer [1] is a scheme of universal quantum computation that uses a specific entangled state, the cluster state, as its central physical resource. The entire computation consists of a sequence of one-qubit projective measurements on that state.

We state our result that the one-way quantum computer can be made fault-tolerant if a network nquantum computer with next-neighbour gates can. The error bounds obtained in this way are, however, very tight. Thus, though this result is of theoretical interest, practically implementable fault-tolerance is rather unlikely to be achieved by simulating quantum logic networks with next-neighbour gates on the one-way quantum computer. More promising techniques will be outlined.
