Ho:YAG laser intracavity pumped by a diode-pumped Tm:YLF laser — •Martin Schellhorn, Antoine Hirth und Christelle Kieleck — Deutsch-Franzoesisches Forschungsinstitut ISL, 5 rue du General Cassagnou, F-68301 Saint-Louis, France

The 2.09-µm Ho:YAG 5I7 —→ 5I8 laser transition is intracavity pumped by a Tm:YLF laser. Both crystals are separated by a 45 dichroic beam splitter (HR @ 1.95 µm s-pol., HT @ 2.09 µm p-pol. and HT @ 0.79 µm) to form a L-shaped resonator for the s-polarized (⊥ c-axis) 1.953 µm Tm3+ laser radiation. The Tm:YLF crystal is diode-pumped using a single or dual end-pumped geometry. The p-polarized 2.09 µm Ho3+ laser radiation is separated from the Tm:YLF crystal by the dichroic.

In a first test a cw output power of 1 W is achieved using a single end-pumped geometry. The diode-to-Holmium optical-to-optical conversion efficiency is 9 % (18 % slope efficiency). The results are discussed and compared with simulations for the intracavity pump scheme [1].
