Dynamics of Nonlinear Maps for Quantum Information Processing — •Gernot Alber1, Igor Jex2, and Tamas Kiss31Institut für Angewandte Physik, Technische Universität Darmstadt, D-64289 Darmstadt — 2Department of Physics, FJFI ČVUT, Břehová 7, CZ-115 19 Praha 1, Czech Republic — 3University of St. Andrews, St. Andrews, Scotland

In various processes of quantum information processing, such as purification /1,2/ and state discrimination /2,3/, special types of nonlinear quantum maps are required. These maps (transformations) are obtained by combining a conditional-not operation, local unitary operations and projections onto specific states of the subsystems formed by two or more particles. We investigate the mathematical properties of these transformations for two two-state systems with respect to the appearance of chaos. We discuss possible routes to chaos and show for certain regimes that intermittency of type II is a possible scenario. On the basis of analytical as well as numerical results the consequences of these dynamical aspects are discussed with particular emphasis on purification protocols for highly entangled states.
