Entangled quantum solitons for quantum information processing — •Lothar Schlafer, Matthias Freyberger, and Victor V. Kozlov — Abteilung für Quantenphysik, Universität Ulm, D-89081

Quantum solitons in optical fibers and optically thick two-level media are effectively described by the formalism of Quantum Inverse Scattering Method in which a single soliton naturally appears as a compound consisting of two quantum particles. Within this description, the propagation of the soliton through the nonlinear medium manifests itself as the quantum-mechanical evolution of the two-particle compound including the development of inter-particle correlations. The last are quantified as entanglement. We present the mechanistic picture of optical solitons in both the Heisenberg and the Schrödinger representation and demonstrate their capabilities in performing quantum-information tasks.
