Quantum and Classical Teleportation of Continuous Variables — •Bernd Mohring and Matthias Freyberger — Abteilung für Quantenphysik, Universität Ulm, 89069 Ulm

Using a non-ideal quantum channel, the teleportation of an unknown quantum state from Alice to Bob does not yield the original state. However, it is still possible to calculate the teleported state with the help of the P-distribution of the initial state. The main goal of a non-ideal teleportation is to achieve on average the best possible fidelity. We compare quantum teleportation to a classical scheme for teleportation, which does not use any quantum channel. We find that not in every case the quantum scheme is better than such a “classical” teleportation. That is especially true if we have specific knowledge about the initial state. To verify this, we show analytic examples for Fock states and coherent states.
