The interaction of single neutral Cs atoms with single photons inside a high-finesse optical resonator is considered an interesting approach for implementation of quantum logic. Coupling two or more atoms to the fundamental mode of a cavity provides the possibility to entangle them and to perform conditional manipulation of their internal states via photon exchange. Single cold atoms are provided by a magneto-optical trap (MOT), which also serves for the preparation and measurement of the quantum state (hyperfine level). An optical conveyor belt enables us to move the atoms into the resonator, which is placed 5 mm away from the MOT. The resonator consists of two custom manufactured, ultra-high reflecting dielectric mirrors of 1 mm diameter, glued onto two piezo-elements. Low losses and a short mirror distance of about 0.2 mm enable us to reach the strong coupling regime. To minimize the influence on the atoms the cavity is stabilized by a far detuned lock laser (836 nm) using the Pound-Drever-Hall method. This lock laser is stabilized to a transfer cavity, locked to the atomic resonance at 852 nm.
