Thermal noise will be a limiting noise source in the GW detector currently under construction. Therefore it is very important to get a better understanding of this noise. Off resonance thermal noise has yet to be measured. We are approaching this goal with a mirror suspended as the last stage of a pendulum chain, in order to isolate our system from the seismic noise. Recent measurements indicated, however, that the seismic noise is much stronger than expected. We advanced the hypothesis that this excess noise is due to the fact that the isolation stages, and our pendulum as well, are not point-like masses but extended objects. To check this assumption, we developed a numerical simulation and used the result to design a multiple stage pendulum suspension, with enhanced seismic isolation. In this talk we present the latest results including the performance of a complete redesign of the pendulum geometry.
