We study the dissipative dynamics of a continuously driven No-dqSchrödinger cat atom-field state in cavity QED systems [1]. Our model consists of a lossy cavity coupled to a two-level atom which is driven by a strong external resonant field. We show that the atom-field dynamics arising from the competition between the pumping and decoherence processes yield, unexpectedly, a completely solvable model. Even though, the steady-state is diagonal in the atom-field density matrix, we find that the continuous pumping decreases the typical decay rate of the off-diagonal terms. These results apply to the microwave as well as to the optical regime. [1] E. Solano, G. S. Agarwal, and H. Walther, to be published in Phys. Rev. Letters (quant-ph/0202071).
