Modern Theory of Nuclear Forces — •Ulf Meißner1, E. Epelbaum2, W. Glöckle2, A. Nogga3, H. Kamada4, and H. Witala51HISKP (TH), Uni Bonn, Nussallee 14-16, 53115 Bonn — 2Bochum — 3Tuscon (USA) — 4Kyushu (Japan) — 5Krakow (Poland)

I discuss how nuclear forces can be systematically derived from Effective Field Theory consistent with the symmetries of QCD. Applications to systems of 2,3 and 4 nucleons are presented, with particular emphasis on the first consistent derivation of a three-nucleon force. The chiral limit of nuclear physics and the chiral extrapolations of NN observables pertinent for lattice studies are also discussed.
