Pulse Shape Analysis of Signals from Sixfold Segmented MINIBALL HPGe Detectors using Digital Signal Processors — •Martin Lauer, Hans Boie, Jörg Fitting, Oliver Niedermaier, Uttam Pal, Heiko Scheit, and Dirk Schwalm — MPI für Kernphysik, Heidelberg

To improve the performance of the MINIBALL array [1] in experiments involving fast moving γ emitters and correspondingly large Doppler shifts, all signals of the individual sixfold segmented HPGe detector modules will be subjected to a pulse shape analysis (PSA). Previous investigations have shown that with simple PSA algorithms the granularity of the individual modules can be increased from 6 to about 100.

Suitable PSA algorithms have been implemented on the Analog Devices ADSP-2181 DSP [2] using the waveform data provided by a 40 MHz flash ADC, both part of the single width fast CAMAC module DGF-4C from XIA [3] featuring four spectroscopic channels. After a short introduction into PSA with MINIBALL detectors and the DGF-4C the implementation and performance of the PSA algorithms will be presented.
