One of the challenges of the spectroscopy of heavy nuclei is to resolve the low lying part of the dense spectra and to study whether the nuclear structure is related to symmetries resulting from a restricted number of degrees of freedom. Particularly interesting are nuclei with a specific bosonic and fermionic structure where dynamical symmetries may relate and predict the spectra of even-even, even-odd, odd-even and odd-odd nuclei. In this way supersymmetry successfully describes a relevant part of the spectra in the quartet of nuclei 194Pt, 195Au, 195Pt and 196Au.
Presently we extend our studies to the neighbouring region: We measured with polarized beam at the Munich Q3D spectrograph angular distributions of the transfer reactions (d,p) to 193Os, 194Ir and 197Pt and (d,α) to 194Ir, 196Au, 200Au and 202Au. Excellent spectra with high counting statistics were obtained with a new detector system and with beam currents of up to 3 µA on target from the Stern-Gerlach polarized ion source.
The determination of excitation energies, spins and parity is discussed, the results are compared with model expectations.
