The Zn isotopes belong to a class of nuclei for which the nuclear structure has been very well described in the framework of the nuclear shell model. In recent measurements of g factors of the first 2+ states of 62,64,66,68,70Zn, their magnitude, in particular for the lighter isotopes, was well reproduced by large-scale shell model calculations considering 40Ca as well as 56Ni cores with a fpg model space for valence protons and neutrons and the effective NN interaction KB3G[1]. In the present work we have obtained more data to further test the model predictions. Isotopically pure 64Zn beams of 174 MeV provided by the Munich tandem accelerator were Coulomb excited by scattering from a carbon target attached to gadolinium for spin precessions in the transient field. Inverse kinematics was employed for detecting de-excitation γ rays in coincidence with forward scattered carbon ions. Lifetimes were measured simultaneously using the Doppler-Shift-Attenuation-Method.
