We report on studies of compact star evolution which indicate that some recent puzzling observations might be explained by the presence of (color superconducting) quark matter phases in the stars interior.

We suggest the following correlations of phenomena with hybrid star properties: (i) frequency (and mass) clustering of accreting compact stars in low-mass X-ray binaries with the moment of inertia of hybrid stars, (ii) enhanced cooling with direct URCA processes in quark matter, (iii) compactness of neutron stars with the mass- radius relation for hybrid stars, (iv) gamma-ray and neutrino bursts related to supernova explosions with a neutrino untrapping transition in hot protoneutron stars.

The investigations are based on the equation of state for a nonlocal chiral quark model including 2SC color superconductivity; rotating compact star configurations within general relativity and a cooling code which includes heat transport in 2SC quark matter and superfluid nuclear matter.
