Strangeness in cold nuclear matter — •M.F.M. Lutz1, E.E. Kolomeitsev2, and C.L. Korpa31GSI, Planckstr. 1, D-64291 Darmstadt — 2NBI, University of Copenhagen, Blegdamsvej 17, DK-2100 Copenhagen — 3Department of Theoretical Physics, University of Pecs, Ifjusag, 7624 Pecs, Hungary

Based on a chiral SU(3) description of the kaon, antikaon and pion-nucleon scattering data [1] a self-consistent many-body approach for the propagation of hyperon-resonances and antikaons in cold nuclear matter is presented [2]. The importance of p-wave channels, in particular the contribution of the Sigma(1385) resonance, for the nuclear strangeness dynamics is emphasized. As a result of our simulations we predict substantially in-medium enhanced π Y to K N reaction amplitudes that should drive the subthreshold antikaon production in heavy-ion collisions at SIS energies strongly towards equilibrium conditions. As a further application of the obtained antikaon spectral function we report on a detailed calculation of the φ -meson properties in nuclear matter. Medium modifications of the vector meson spectral functions may be seen with the HADES detector at GSI in π A collisions.
