A radiofrequency plasma jet source has been developed, operating in the pressure domain, from low (10−2 mbar) up to atmospheric pressure. The plasma spatial distribution and plasma color are strongly dependent upon pressure and mass flow. Spectral studies of the jet and images taken by a digital camera when passing from low pressure to high pressure regimes are presented and discussed. Special emphasis is on the role played by pressure and mass flow on the operation of the source. Simulation of molecular spectra and comparison with experimental data has been applied in order to determine the molecular temperature. We focus on the N2 SPS and γ NO spectral systems for the spectral analysis. The contribution of electronic processes to spectra excitation is discussed.
