Prior to the experimental campaigns with the newly installed Dynamic Ergodic Divertor (DED) at the TEXTOR tokamak a series of 3D edge plasma fluid simulations has been carried out. The main goal of these numerical experiments is the identification of sensitive parameters. We have employed the EMC3-EIRENE code, for the solution of the plasma fluid equations coupled to a kinetic treatment of the recycling neutrals. The 3D magnetic field topology is obtained from a combination of magnetic equilibrium calculations (DIVA) with field line tracing to account for the DED perturbation field. Keeping the unknown perpendicular plasma transport coefficients at fixed (anomalous) values typical for fusion edge plasmas, we identify the combined effect of equilibrium and magnetic perturbation as essential for the overall plasma dynamics in the DED-edge. E.g., the pathways for particle and energy loss from the confined plasma to the divertor target are shown to be significantly influenced by this combined effect. For edge topologies typical for TEXTOR DED a separate treatment of the No-dqlaminarNo-dq (short field line) and the (partially) ergodised field zone, as earlier proposed, seems to be ruled out due to these sensitivities.
