The Mainz Frozen Spin Target — •Mauricio Martinez Fabregate — Universitat Mainz, J.-J.-Becherweg 45

The present poster will explain the different systems needed to build a frozen spin target. A superconducting magnet is used to create a magnetic field of up to 5 Tesla around the target material. The very low temperatures (50 mK) are achieved by a cryostat using 3He4He mixing. Microwave signals are needed to induce the electron spin flip in order to transfer the polarization to the nucleons. A varactor tuning IMPATT (IMPact Avalanche Time Transition) diode is used to generate the microwaves. The system used to control and measure the frequency and the power is presented. A NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) system is used to measure the polarization of the target. The whole setup is controlled and monitored by using Siematic modules and LabView software. The basics ideas of polarization for particles with spin 1/2 inside a magnetic field and the DNP (Dynamical Nuclear Polarization) technique used to transfer the polarization from the electron to the nucleon are explained.
