New results from CERES — •Ana Marin — Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung mbH, Darmstadt

Heavy ion collisions provide the only way to study dense and hot matter in the laboratory. Different observables can be used to study the fireball formed during the collision. Dileptons are particularly interesting because of the negligible final state interactions and because they directly probe the entire evolution of the fireball.

The CERES/NA45 experiment at CERN SPS is mainly devoted to the study of low mass dielectrons. The upgrade with a radial drift TPC lead to an improved dielectron mass resolution and also improved electron identification. In addition the investigation of various hadronic observables providing information of the characteristics of the fireball and its evolution became accessible.

During 2000 CERES collected data from Pb + Au collisions at the top (158 AGeV) SPS energy. The latest results on electron pairs with improved mass resolution, particle yields from hadronic observables, fluctuations and flow will be presented.
