Muon Reconstruction with ANTARES in the Presence of High Optical Background — •Melitta Naumann-Godó1, Gisela Anton1, Bettina Hartmann2, Jürgen Hössl1, Alexander Kappes2, Timo Karg1, Uli Katz2, Wolfgang Kretschmer1, Sebastian Kuch2, Horst Laschinsky2, and Christopher Naumann11Physikalisches Institut 4, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg — 2Physikalisches Institut 1, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg

The ANTARES project is constructing a high energy neutrino telescope in the deep Mediterranean Sea. The telescope will use an array of photomultiplier tubes to detect the Cherenkov light emitted by muons resulting from the interaction of high energy neutrinos with matter.

Facing the high bioluminescence activity at the deployment site the effects of realistic optical background on the muon detection and reconstruction are studied and an adaptation is attempted. Furthermore, a joint reconstruction procedure of both muons and their accompanying shower is considered. This presentation outlines the main reconstruction methods and results.
